JORDAN Gauci and Jas Cheema both scored tons for Hawkesbury Cricket Club in a huge two-day win over North Sydney in NSW Premier Cricket at the weekend.
Gacui scored 141 runs and Cheema scored 107 for first grade in the round 10 match.
North Sydney won the toss on Saturday at North Sydney Oval and sent Hawkesbury in, a move which backfired for the hosts.
Josh Clarke fell cheaply for Hawkesbury, but then Cheema, who opened the batting, and Gauci, coming in at number three, combined for a 144-run second wicket partnership.
Cheema eventually fell for 107 after facing 151 balls and 19 boundaries.
Dale McKay was next at the crease, and he added 63 to the tally, with two sixes in his 82 ball innings. McKay and Gauci had a 106-run partnership before McKay fell with the score at 3-264.
Gauci featured in a third 100-run stand before falling, this time with Corey Lowe. The partnership between the pair was 111 runs.
Gauci eventually was dismissed for 141 runs, in an innings where he hit two sixes and 19 fours off 230 balls.
Lowe was not out on 70 when Hawkesbury declared at 6-413.
North Sydney was bowled out well short of Hawkesbury’s total, although not to be completely outclassed, James Aitken scored 113 for his team.
Pakistani leg-spinner Usman Qadir did the damage for Hawkesbury, taking five wickets.
Chris Lawrence, brother of Hawkesbury first grade regular Pat, made his first grade debut in the match.
Meanwhile, second grade continued its impressive run this season, with a five-wicket victory the one-day match the lower grades played.
Second grade is in second place on the ladder, and has only lost two games so far this season.
In third grade, 131 runs from Jarod Brett and three wickets to Eknoor Singh helped the team get a comfortable victory.
Fourth grade fell well short of North Sydney’s total, while in fifth grade, both teams finished on 157 runs in the one-day match, resulting in a rare tied game.
In the AW Green Shield, Hawkesbury managed to squeak into the finals by defeating Western Suburbs by two wickets. The team will play Gordon on Sunday.
Hawkesbury will likely make the finals of the Poidevin-Gray Shield competition too. The club is fourth on the ladder plays Sydney University in the final regular season game on Sunday before the finals start next week.
Hawkesbury is seventh on the club championship ladder with 726 points.
In round 11, Hawkesbury will take on Gordon.
