HAWKESBURY Cricket Club’s Arjun Nair scored the winning runs in the opening Big Bash League match on Tuesday, December 19, as the Sydney Thunder defeated the Sydney Sixers.
Nair had to dive for the run off a Sean Abbott delivery, which brought up the 150th run for the Thunder on the final ball of the night.
Nair’s innings was a short one, lasting just six balls, but he scored 12 runs off them, including two fours.
Earlier in the night at Spotless Stadium, Nair took two wickets.
His first victim was Moises Henriques. Nair was dispatched for a six earlier in the piece by Henriques, before the batsmen skied one in the air which was secured by Shane Watson.
He also caught Johan Botha leg before for a duck and nearly had Sam Billings, but the decision was overturned on review.
Former Hawkesbury cricketer Steve O’Keefe also played in the match, but on the wrong end of the scorecard with the Sixers.
O’Keefe didn’t claim any wickets from his four overs, but did hit 19 off 14 balls with three boundaries.
The Thunder play in Adelaide on Friday night, while the Sixers will host Perth on Saturday night.
