THE Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust received a donation of $10,000 from the Hawkesbury Race Club recently.
The trust is managed by the Richmond Club and the funds raised will be used to develop oncology and chemotherapy services within the region.
Hawkesbury Race Club chief executive Greg Rudolph said the club was happy to support the trust and its operations with this donation and other donations made in the past.
"Whilst racing is our core business, we are proud to facilitate the functions that are so well supported by the local community, giving back to those less fortunate who are affected by the ravages of illness, including carers and families," said Mr Rudolph.
"Working with people like Kimberley Talbot, whose vision for these facilities reaches also beyond her own business, makes events like this possible.”
Richmond Club chief executive Kimberley Talbot said the trust was pleased with the donation.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors and Trustees, I sincerely thank Hawkesbury Race Club for their generous donation of $10,000 for the Cancer Trust,” she said.
“It has been a very long journey for the Trustees to deliver the Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust Chemotherapy and Infusion Unit to the community, however the end result and the difference it makes in local residents’ lives makes it an extremely worthwhile experience.”
Talbot said the race club had always been supportive of the trust.
“Hawkesbury Race Club has been assisting us since the beginning, hosting Charity Race Days that have raised over $200,000 for the Trust, as well as financial donations such as this,” she said.
“Their generosity and support is a great example of the community spirit in the Hawkesbury.”
She added that the unit was now operational with four treatment chairs and thus the trust had succeeded in its vision.
“Richmond Club and the Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust will take a back seat now that the centre is operational, organising fundraising activities and co-ordinating care packages for patients receiving treatment, while continuing to underwrite the service,” she said.
