Swimmers with diarrhoea warned to stay out of pools to avoid gastro risk
People with diarrhoea have been urged to stay out of swimming pools for at least two weeks after they recover to avoid spreading gastro.
NSW Health has warned that cases of cryptosporidiosis are expected to rise this summer as people flock to public pools to enjoy the sun and seek relief from the heat. Read more.
NBN Co pushes new low-price high-speed bundles
The national broadband network will offer cut-price wholesale bundles to encourage the take up of faster speeds, but there's no guarantee retailers will pass on the savings.
Currently in its final stage of consultation, the NBN Co is intending to offer cheaper 50mbps and 100mbps plans and will also force retailers to buy access and bandwidth together for the first time. Read more.
Sydney's first heatwave of summer may not crest until mid-next week
The first major heatwave of the summer started to lap Sydney's suburbs on Wednesday and is unlikely to fully recede for another week.
Sydney will be spared the worst of the heat for most of the coming eight days as cooling sea breezes are expected to keep the lid on temperatures on the worst extremes.
Western suburbs, though, will start to swelter from Wednesday with the mercury such as around Penrith likely to nudge 40 degrees. Read more.
Three men arrested in police operation at Sydney's Centennial Park
Three men will face court on Thursday after a dramatic arrest at Centennial Park where two loaded semi-automatic weapons and around $650,000 were seized by police.
A large police presence descended on the park for the planned operation just before 1pm on Wednesday, with live aerial vision showing police searching a vehicle in the middle of the road. Read more.
State government moves to suspend Blue Mountains council
Blue Mountains City Council has been threatened with suspension in the wake of allegations about asbestos management.
The mayor, Mark Greenhill, told the Blue Mountains Gazette the Minister for Local Government, Gabrielle Upton, had said she intends to suspend the council immediately.
Cr Greenhill said it was a politically motivated act. Read more.
Jeff Horn pummels Gary Corcoran in Brisbane
Jeff Horn stands on the verge of huge fight with Terence Crawford in 2018 after stopping Gary Corcoran in the first defence of his WBO welterweight title in Brisbane on Wednesday night.
Corcoran gave Horn some nervous moments in the early rounds before Horn wore him down after the end of the sixth round, eventually winning via technical knockout as Corcoran's corner raised the white flag early in round 11. Read more.
Dugan and Moylan to add attacking spark at Cronulla
It is an image that should excite Cronulla Sharks fans – Josh Dugan wearing the black, white and blue.
Dugan is finally enjoying an off-season break after helping Australia win the rugby league World Cup earlier this month.
The 27-year-old signed a four-year, $3 million deal with the Sharks in May after deciding to leave Cronulla’s bitter local rivals St George Illawarra. Read more.

England have heeded the calls of Simon Katich, Michael Vaughan and many other pundits, rejigging their batting order by promoting Jonny Bairstow to No.6.

FFA deny approaching Scolari about Socceroos job
Football Federation Australia says it is yet to approach any Socceroos coaching candidates, after World Cup-winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari stated he was sounded out about the vacant position.
Scolari, who recently ended a two-and-a-half-year stint with Chinese top-flight outfit Guangzhou Evergrande, said Australia's governing body had been in talks with his agent about replacing Ange Postecoglou.
He was interested, but wanted a long-term contract. Read more.
