THE Hawkesbury’s Naomi Stalenberg and the Sydney Thunder women will take on the Melbourne Stars at Penrith on Saturday afternoon, in what will be the closest Women’s Big Bash League match of the season for Hawkesbury residents.
The Thunder will enter the match against the Stars with two wins and one loss after a quickfire three games in four days to start the WBBL season.
The Thunder and the Stars played at Albury on Tuesday, with the Thunder crushing their opponents by eight wickets at the New South Wales border town.
Stalenberg was not required to bat in the match such was the Thunder’s dominance, as the team comfortably chased down the Stars’ total of 114.
At the weekend against the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers, Stalenberg batted at better than a run a ball in both matches.
The Thunder topped the Renegades in the season opener, but then fell to the Sixers the following day, with both matches played at North Sydney Oval.
The Sydney Thunder men will also start their season next week on Tuesday, when they play the Sydney Sixers at Spotless Stadium in the Big Bash League opener.
Hawkesbury Cricket Club’s Arjun Nair is a chance to play in that match.
The Thunder’s fourth match of the season will be played at Howell Oval, Penrith and will start on Saturday at 1pm.
