Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup threw open the doors of his new operation at Clarendon on Sunday, as Platinum Park welcomed a large crowd for its open day.
Owners and invitees enjoyed a relaxed morning of finger food and champagne as Widdup and Platinum Park owner Damion Flower of Jadesky Racing showed off the operation’s first-class facilities, top stable names and up-and-coming youngsters.
Paraded on the day was the Snitzel filly, Suspenders, who scored a breakthrough metropolitan victory for Widdup at Rosehill Gardens in August, taking out the in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m) for three-year-old fillies with Christian Reith in the saddle.
Ridicule, by So You Think, was fractious as she was paraded second before the substantial gathering. The well-bred three-year-old has only had one start, in the $40,000 Tab.Com.Au Maiden Plate at Warwick Farm over 1100 metres in September, where jockey Corey Brown brought her home in second place.
Promising two-year-old Witherspoon was the final parade for the day, an Exceed and Excel filly that Widdup said would be prepared for the Magic Millions.
Widdup backed up the open day with success in the 1300m JDS Concreting Class 2 Handicap at Hawkesbury in the afternoon, as Christian Reith rode the four-year-old Chilcotin into second place.
