Two brothers aged 19 and 17, are lucky to have only received minor injuries following a boating incident on the Hawkesbury River yesterday, December 6.
The two brothers were in a Quintex 'tinnie' and were towing another friend on a board along the Hawkesbury River at Wilberforce at around 5pm. One brother was driving and the other observing when the boat jerked to one side causing both boys to fall into the river.
The boat has then commenced to navigate in a circle, hitting both boys. Fortunately they and the other boy who was on board, managed to get to the river bank where they received treatment from Ambulance officers before being transported to Westmead Hospital where they are currently in a stable condition recovering from the incident.
The boat eventually ran aground in the river bank and was retrieved.
Police believe that the boys were acting responsibly and were navigating at a sensible speed when the incident occurred and believe the tow rope may have tangled in the motor. Inquiries are continuing.
“This is a timely reminder with Summer now with us to take precautions on our waterways,” police said.
