The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) brought its latest airlifter to RAAF Base Richmond recently.
The Kawasaki C-2 jet transport entered JASDF service in June 2016, and its transit through RAAF Base Richmond formed part of the aircraft’s operational test and evaluation.
The visit allowed personnel from RAAF Air Mobility Group an opportunity to see the aircraft up close, with JASDF personnel likewise seeing the RAAF’s C-27J Spartan and C-130J Hercules firsthand.
Both Japan and Australia are committed to providing emergency airlift relief in the Asia Pacific region, and have conducted trilateral training activities with the United States to rehearse humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) responses.
