Sarah Okunbor and Jack Dormor will represent NSW at the upcoming Pacific School Games in Adelaide from December 3-9.
The pair will fly out on Friday to settle into their new netball and softball teams.
For Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association’s Sarah, the games will be her first opportunity to represent NSW.
“I’m excited to play with some of the girls I know from reps who I’ve played against but never with,” the 15-year-old said. “I play goal defence and goal keeper – I started as a shooter but then I moved to defence.”
Jack, a long-term member of Baulkham Hills Baseball Club, is no rookie to the NSW jersey.
The 17-year-old has represented NSW in baseball at three national championships and will compete in his fourth in January.
“I’ve never played softball – only for school,” he said.
Changing codes between the diamond sports wasn’t too hard for the elite baseballer, but thinks batting is the biggest challenge.
“The hardest thing is in baseball the ball comes down and in softball it goes up,” he said.
Careers advisor Kathryn Henson said the school was very excited for the pair.
“We’re pretty proud of them,” she said. “They're great people and great representatives of our school.”
In the future, Sarah hopes to be selected for the NSW under-17s netball team.
Meanwhile Jack is looking towards playing college baseball in the US in 2019.
