HAWKESBURY Council says it has made savings of about $400,000 at its South Windsor Waste Water Treatment Plant in the 2016-17 financial year.
At the November 14 Council meeting, Council noted the budget papers for the 2016-17 year, which showed an operating loss but overall profit in Council’s books.
New technology and reduced chemical usage at the waste water plant thanks to the new technology had helped it achieve the savings according to Council.
The facility takes in waste water and treats it to reduce salinity in the water, before selling the treated water onto customers for irrigation and other purposes which use non-potable water.
The water has reduced levels of salinity thanks to the new technology and improved methods of processing the water according to Council.
Hawkesbury Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett said it was good to see the savings.
“Congratulations to the supervisor; operator in charge and staff for their commitment to making improvements and reducing Council’s costs, which will ultimately benefit our community,” she said via a prepared statement.
