Tiny tot dancers at Richmond dance school, Roar, recently ran a pet food drive to donate towards both the Animal Welfare League Hawkesbury Branch and Hawkesbury Helping Hands.
The pet food for Hawkesbury Helping Hands will help to feed the pets of those who are homeless and the donation towards the Welfare League would help see the service feed desperate animals over the Christmas period.
Teacher Bernice Mead said the that both she and her students were all animals lovers and all the families of the school were on-board the drive.
“The welfare of animals is an issue that is close to mine and our students hearts and we wanted to do something that supported local Hawkesbury organisations,” Ms Mead said.
Over the course of a week all the students from Roar and their families contributed by buying food and bringing it in to make a huge hamper which was donated to the two local organisations last week.
Ms Mead said she felt it was important that children learnt to give back and help those in need and as most of them loved and had animals, support for the cause came easily
“Often our girls will bring their puppy into class, we all love animals. I feel it’s also good for them to learn to give back to their community.
“We want to help these two fantastic organisations provide those animals that need it with enough food to see them through the Christmas period.”
