For the second time in two seasons, Parramatta’s first grade cricket captain Nick Bertus has smashed a double century.

The prolific run scorer plundered 206 not out from 225 balls as Parramatta declared at 4-430.

Bertus shared a 253-run partnership with Brenton Cherry, who hit 104, his second century of the season.

“It’s a good feeling, especially against Bankstown who won the competition a couple of years ago, were grand finalists last year and are one of the strongest clubs in Sydney,” Bertus said.

“I’ve been batting pretty well all year just without getting that big score for Parramatta. To get in and get on with it was really good and we had a big day out.”

Bertus has hit three half-centuries in the NSW Premier Cricket this season, averaging more than 100.

He said he had been batting well but “threw away a few hundreds” in first grade.

The Northmead resident also hit his first Futures League century for the NSW second XI in mid-October.

Against Bankstown, Parramatta capped off a great day with opening bowler Scott Copperfield taking a wicket to leave Bankstown 1-20 at stumps.

“The wicket was pretty big so they’re pretty demoralised which is good,” Bertus said.

“Hopefully Sean Abbott will be back as well which will help a little bit. Nine more wickets and it’d be a really good result.”
