ROADS and Maritime Services will continue on with the Windsor Bridge Replacement Project despite the Upper House inquiry into its decision making process in creating the project according to a spokesperson.
On November 16, an Upper House inquiry into the Windsor Bridge Replacement Project was announced.
As the inquiry’s chairperson, Robert Brown MLC told The Gazette, it does not mean the project has to stop or ever be forced to halt.
The RMS is in no mood to halt the project of its own volition, as a spokesperson told The Gazette.
“Roads and Maritime Services will continue to develop the detailed design for the Windsor Bridge replacement,” the spokesperson said.
“Halting work on the project would increase project cost and delay the delivery of a new and improved bridge for the community.”
Most recently, parts of Thompson Square have been cordoned off as the RMS completes archaeological salvage work, as it searches for Aboriginal artefacts and other historic items in the square.
The RMS is yet to appoint a contractor for the project, which it estimates will start by the middle of 2018.
