HAWKESBURY Police said Tuesday morning’s truck smash at Wilberforce involved two trucks.
Inspector Jenkins said the driver airlifted to Westmead, while initially reported to be in a serious condition, deteriorated quickly.
“He was serious and about 10 minutes later he became critical,” Insp. Jenkins said at 3.25pm. “It’s possible he’s still in surgery.”
He said the second truck driver, estimated to be in his late 20s or early 30s, passed a breath test and was taken away for mandatory blood and urine testing.
When asked where the drivers lived, he said “they’re both locals”.
The accident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit based at Huntingwood.
FROM OUR EARLIER STORY: NSW Ambulance received the call at 6.10am on Tuesday morning of an accident on King Road at Wilberforce.
The driver taken to Westmead, estimated to be in his 20s, had hit a power pole and suffered head and leg injuries. The NSW Ambulance helicopter was called and he was transported to Westmead Hospital in what was then a serious condition.
King Road was completely closed between Coburg and Old Sackville roads for some hours.
The Gazette contacted Endeavour Energy regarding the pole. The spokesperson said there was no interruption to power but a crew attended to assess the condition of the concrete transmission pole.
