ANOTHER round, another draw for the Western Sydney Wanderers, who this time became the first team in the A-League to not lose to Melbourne City with a 1-1 draw.
Unfortunately for the Wanderers, it was the second time in as many weeks that the team failed to defend an early lead.
In round five, a first half goal to Oriol Riera, and Melbourne City being reduced to 10 men, was not enough for the Wanderers to take a win.
In round six, Jaushua Sotirio scored in the 19th minute for the Wanderers, putting them up against the unbeaten City.
However, City struck back in the 55th minute thanks to Ross McCormack.
It was also the first match for the Wanderers with new man Josep Gombau at the helm, replacing interim coach Hayden Foxe.
Gombau said he was pleased with the performance against City.
After two tough Melbourne trips, the Wanderers will look forward to hosting the Wellington Phoenix at Spotless Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Phoenix, like the Wanderers, have only one win this season, however, unlike the Wanderers, have lost half their games, although are coming off a huge 5-2 win over the Perth Glory.
For Western Sydney, it was the fifth draw of the season so far, and while they are unbeaten, at some stage the team will need to start winning matches in order to qualify for the finals.
The club has just eight points from six rounds of football, and while it sits in fourth place, last season began the same way, with a number of draws and the club scraping into the finals series.
The Wanderers will play the Wellington Phoenix at 5.35pm on Saturday at Spotless Stadium.
Women lose to Roar
Meanwhile, in round three of the W-League competition, the Wanderers women suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Brisbane Roar.
Carson Pickett scored the lone goal in the 30th minute.
The Wanderers women will have a bye in round four, and the club’s next match will be against the Melbourne Victory on November 24 at Lakeside Stadium.
