When the average life span for an Australian business is 12 years, anything beyond that can be counted as a great success which is why Kurrajong Builders Supplies are celebrating 20 years of service in the area.
After purchasing the store in 1997, owner Jeff Smith doubled the size of the business within four years and has built it into a brand synonymous with local, easy-to-understand advice with reliable and convenient hardware solutions.
The business originally had no computers and featured a limited range of retail stock. Now it’s an up-to-date, growing competitor in the hardware market with a comprehensive range of materials and services for both trade and retail customers.
We had a manual cash register and I can still recall the 'kaching' sound it made.
While growth is essential for a prosperous business, Jeff explained that bigger is not always better.
“Being relatively smaller than our major competitors in the Hawkesbury enables us to maintain close relationships with our loyal customer base and understand their needs.”
Those relationships extend to supporting local community groups with Jeff looking forward to giving back for many years to come.
