WITH the Sun Herald headline on Sunday that 155,000 Australians could be saved from a premature death if the sugar in soft drinks was reduced by a third, Council’s screening this Friday afternoon of ‘That Sugar Film’ is more than timely.
The famous documentary follows the journey of Damon Gameau, an Australian actor. In the film he tries to discover the bitter truth about sugar, embarking on a high sugar diet to see its effects on a healthy body.
The ironic twist is that to do this, he only consumes foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’ that are in fact laden with hidden sugars like low-fat yoghurt, muesli bars, juices and cereals.

The film features guest cameos from Stephen Fry and Isabel Lucas and a great soundtrack including Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel and Florence and the Machine.
It’s at Windsor Library, 300 George Street, on Friday, October 20 from 2-4pm. It’s free, but bookings are essential via Eventbrite or call the Library on 4560 4460.
