A man in his 20’s was lucky to escape serious injury after his ute mounted the kerb, hit a power pole and collided with a fence on Macquarie Street, South Windsor this afternoon, Monday October 16.
Emergency services were called the scene near the Argyle Street intersection just before 2:30pm to find fallen power lines and extensive damage to a residential fence and to the front end of the man’s Toyota ute.
Police said the driver was headed northbound in the kerbside lane when he mounted the kerb, but the cause of the crash was not yet known.
The man was able to self extricate from the vehicle and did not require medical attention.
A truck which was traveling in the opposite direction at the time of the accident was stopped on the road for some times due to safety issues concerning fallen live power lines.
The stretch of Macquarie Street between Argyle Street and Campbell Street was closed to traffic in both directions for some time while crews worked to remove the fallen lines.
The couple that live in the house of the damaged fence said all they saw was a huge flash of light before heading out the front to find the ute had collided with their fence.
Police directed traffic at the Argyle Street intersection due to the traffic lights being out, but police say they have since been restored.
The road has now been reopened to traffic and power to homes is expected to be restored from 7pm tonight.
