APPLICATIONS are now open for the 2018 Hawkesbury Sister City Exchange Program, an opportunity for students in Years 9, 10 or 11 next year to experience another culture for four weeks.
Hosted by the Hawkesbury Sister City Association (HSCA) - which is funded by Council and run by volunteers - the annual exchange program offers placement for up to six students, and their families host an international student in ‘exchange’.
HSCA was developed to promote friendship and contact between the people of the Hawkesbury and the region’s sister cities - Temple City in California, America, and Kyotamba in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
The exchange gives students the opportunity to experience the lifestyle of one of these two countries, and during their visits they will live a family, attend school, experience the culture and customs, and go sight-seeing.
The Hawkesbury student visits occur in September and October, and the reciprocal visits from the Japanese and American students are in July and August.
HSCA said its exchange program allows students to become immersed in the lifestyle of the country they are visiting, while having the safeguard of the friendship, knowledge and expertise that has developed over many years between the sister cities and their councils.
HSCA welcomes new members, however membership is not a requirement to take part in the exchange program.
Applications for the exchange program close Friday, October 20 at 5pm. Apply online at www.hsca.org.au.
- An informal information evening will be held on Tuesday, October 17 from 7pm until 8.30pm in the Tebbutt Room at Deerubbin Centre, located at 300 George Street, Windsor.
