NSW Breakers women's cricket team win season-opener against Queensland

A Rachael Haynes century has helped the NSW Breakers to a bonus point win against Queensland in round one of the Women’s National Cricket League.

The Breakers started in the field at Blacktown International Sportspark and kept it tight early in the innings through openers Rene Farrell and Ellyse Perry.

The Queensland openers Beth Mooney and Kirby Short combined for a 111-run opening partnership before Nicola Carey dismissed Short for 53.

NSW routed Queensland from there to bowl Queensland out for 225.

The Breakers lost early wickets with internationals Alyssa Healy (5) and Alex Blackwell (6) out early.

However, recently named Australian women’s Ashes captain Rachael Haynes (103 not out off 93 balls) dominated the innings to help NSW to 4-226 in 38.1 overs, winning by 6 wickets and claiming a bonus point.

Queensland 225 from 49.4 overs (Beth Mooney 73, Kirby Short 53; Ellyse Perry 3-37, Rene Farrell 2-32) defeated by NSW 4-226 from 38.1 overs (Rachael Haynes 103*, Naomi Stalenberg 41*; Sammy Jo-Johnson 1-20, Courtney Hill 1-28)
