OROKONUI bagged a win in his first start for Hawkesbury trainer Terry Croft at the Hawkesbury Race Club on Thursday, September 28.
The four-year-old gelding stormed home ahead of Hinchman, trained by the Hawkesbury’s Jason Attard, in the 1300-metre maiden plate on Thursday afternoon.
Unlike Hinchman, who has had six starts, Orokonui managed to salute, thanks to the riding of Mitchell Bell, in his first career run.
Top class jockey Brenton Avdulla was the man to be behind at the track on Thursday, as he rode four winners from six seven starts.
Garry White was the only other Hawkesbury trainer to feature in the placings.
Three-year-old filly Fifth Affair finished a long way behind Groundbreak, trained by Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes, in a 1300-metre maiden plate.
On Wednesday at Rosehill Gardens, Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup had a second placed finisher in the shape of Workdrinks.
The three-year-old filly finished a length behind Godolphin trainer James Cummings’ Demerara, who is stabled at Agnes Banks.
Demerara, another three-year-old filly, was a $1.75 favourite in the 1200-metre 71 handicap, while Workdrinks started at $6.
On Monday, Hawkesbury jockey Grant Buckley had a win while riding at Cessnock.
Buckley saw Hamoon Bridge to victory for Wyong trainer Jeff Englebrecht.
