The local community, referrers, and clients are invited to St John of God Richmond Open Day next month to meet clinicians and see their trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder services and hospital facilities.
St John of God Richmond Chief Executive Officer Steve Brooker said the trauma open day was a great opportunity for people to find out more about trauma recovery and the services offered at the hospital.
There will be demonstrations of some of the effective therapies such as equine therapy, music therapy, mindfulness and yoga. There will also be information stands from partner support organisations.
"The idea for the open day came after speaking to some servicemen and police in August who had just finished our residential Trauma Recovery (PTSD) Program and although very complementary about our services, they said not enough people knew about them," Mr Brooker said.
"They suggested we host a trauma open day so their friends and colleagues could come along to find out about us and be a step towards seeking help for those who need it."
Along with information about the services provided, there will also be a sausage sizzle, face painting and tours of historic Belmont House.
