Hawkesbury Basketball’s representative teams celebrated the 2017 season with a packed house at the Windsor Function centre for their presentation night recently.
Coming off the back of an undefeated season and championship win for the under 14’s boys teem, the club had a lot to celebrate on the night.
Teams came with a theme with plenty of laughs and great costumes the order of the day. Special guests, Hawkesbury Mayor, Mary Lyons-Buckett and Federal MP for Macquarie, Susan Templeman were among those making presentations.
Club president Peter Herrmann said the under 14s boys team and staff received their commemorative polo shirts and hoisted their banner, which will be displayed on the main court at the South Windsor Indoor Sports Centre in perpetuity.
“State League player Michael Hamilton was also recognised for his contribution in helping to train the team, picking up the Senior Association Award for services rendered by a rep player to the Association,” Herrmann said.
“Kaleigh Tolson received the Junior Association Award, and along with Logan Barrett was named as the one of the Hawkesbury Junior Ambassadors for 2018.
“Outgoing Junior Ambassadors Madi Cartwright and Patrick O’Toole carried out their duties right to the end, helping with the presentations and running a final raffle on the night.”
Major Sponsors Bennett Property and Elf Farm Supplies were presented with thank you gifts and sponsors Westminster Plumbing Services, Herrmann Tiles, Bartercard, Bligh Park Veterinary Clinic, Gold Standard Physiotherapy, My House Realty and Millard Excavations were also thanked.
Senior Referee Anthea Jarrett, recently upgraded to Level Two refereeing status, picked up the Senior Rookie of the Year award for her first season in the senior playing ranks. James Eggins, who moved down from Bathurst this season was named Representative Referee of the year.
After a final recognition of the indispensable work done by Board stalwarts Stacy O’Toole and Cleo Pickard, Herrmann announced the U18 Boys as the winners of the best dressed team with their “Top Gun” theme.
“Although all of the teams deserved recognition for their effort in dressing up and making the night a truly fun event,” Herrmann said.
The evening finished with newly appointed FIBA Referee’s Instructor and Honorary Hawkesbury Member John Rearden leading the dance floor renditions of the Macarena and other moves he no doubt learned in his distinguished on court refereeing days.
