Despite an 18-16 loss to the Melbourne Storm on Saturday afternoon, the Parramatta Eels will take more belief into the elimination final against the North Queensland Cowboys.
With Melbourne strongly tipped to claim the NRL premiership, the Eels showed the minor premiers were not unbeatable.
Coach Brad Arthur said the performance revealed there was plenty of belief left in the Eels side as they continue into the next week of the finals.
"It's a missed opportunity but the boys showed plenty of want, plenty of desire,” he said.
“Nobody gave us a chance but we showed that we are good enough."
The Eels led 10-4 at half-time but Melbourne hit back in the second half.
The Eels’ attention now turns to the match against the Cowboys.
Captain Tim Mannah said the Eels were disappointed with the result and said the side are not surprised to be in the position they’re in.
"I thought the boys showed a lot of courage to hang in the way they did but we are focusing now on next week,” he said.
"We have a lot of belief in our squad and our coaching staff so the goal doesn't change for us.
“We are still striving for that big goal and we will just prepare for this game now."
