HAWKESBURY Council has adopted a plan which it hopes will contribute to fighting and solving issues around domestic violence.
The Hawkesbury Family and Domestic Violence Plan has been two years in the making.
The plan’s purpose is to identify actions which all levels of government, as well as the community, can take to reduce domestic violence in the Hawkesbury.
The plan is guided by the principles that: domestic and family violence is prevented; domestic and family is identified early; victims are safe and supported to recover; perpetrators stop using violence; and, a supported professional and effective sector is developed.
Deputy Mayor Barry Calvert originally moved a Notice of Motion in 2015, which saw the plan created.
“I am happy to support because it is something I have wanted to see for a long time,” he said.
On October 26, the annual Reclaim the Night March will be held in the Hawkesbury.
