“My family always call me Wednesday Addams because I have the dark long hair and I like to wear it in plaits or braids,” Keira Bellifemine said.
“They do say I look quite like her.”
The 17-year-old will play the character of Wednesday Addams in Dural Musical Society’s production The Addams Family which opens next month.
Keeping with the theme of the show, opening night will occur on the creepy Friday, October 13.
While a new musical, the show follows the same theme as the original television show, but with a different plot line.
“So the story revolves around Wednesday introducing her boyfriend to the family and the family fighting because they can’t get along with him because they come from two absolutely different worlds,” the year 11 Cherrybrook Technology High School student said.
“She is actually quite a conflicted character because the boyfriend is making her see all the happy and bright sides of life but she still wants to stick to her family roots of staying in the dark.
“Her character goes through trying to get her family to accept a normal person, but also the normal person to accept the dark family.”
This is the third Dural Musical Society show she has been apart of.
She did her first musical at Dural at just nine-years-old in their 2010 production of Annie.
“That’s kind of when I fell in love with musical theatre,” she said.
“I’ve done a few musicals [since Annie] but I always seem to come back to where I first started which is really awesome.
“It’s like a family here, everyone knows each other.”
Keira chose to audition for the musical on the day of the audition, two and a half months ago.
“I’ve sung a few of her songs in competitions before and I just really fell in love with the character,” she said.
“So when I found out [Dural Musical Society] were doing [The Addams Family], I thought I’d love to audition for that.”
