THE lean and the wiry will be whipping off their jumpers and heading into the wild this Saturday at the annual Bilpin Bush Run.
Bilpin Rural Fire Brigade president Steve McMillan said it was quite a task organising the fun run, which is the only major fundraiser for the brigade during the year.
‘‘It is great training for the start of fire season so we drag all the gear out into the bush and make sure it works,’’ he said. ‘‘We use our radio communications van to bounce messages up and down gullies.”
The race goes around Mount Tootie via Wollemi National Park and back.
There are two races which start and finish at Bilpin District Hall at 9am. One is a gruelling 31.5km, the other 16.7km. Prizes will be awarded at around 1pm.
Bilpin Public School P&C and staff will operate a steak and sausage sizzle and sell drinks and refreshments at the hall for participants, support people and the public.
You can register right up to race day. Long race is $110 and short is $90 however no refunds will be given this close to the race.
