IF YOU missed the first burlesque night at Richmond School of Arts in June, make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice.
Ana Seethe’s next Expose – Burlesque and Variety Night is on Saturday, August 26. This time there’s a bit of a darker theme, organiser Rachel Szabo said.
“This time it’s a bit more neo burlesque, a bit darker, a bit more fetish,” she said. “My act is more conceptual, a bit of bondage – it’s not pretty. There are other Shades of Grey themed acts as well – PVC, corsets, masks, a riding crop.
“We had one complaint last time – a woman complained to the venue saying the show wasn’t burlesque, it was just vulgar, but I made it very clear it wasn’t cabaret or jazz ballet – it was very much adults only.
“People can pretty much do what they want - as long as they keep their bits covered,” she giggled.
She said this time there will be three full troupes involved. Hers – the Darlings - as well as the Porcelain Dolls and the Wild Roses, coming from the Blue Mountains and the Sutherland Shire.
“We also have Betty Bandit who will do a Wonder Woman act; there’ll be vintage burlesque with fan dances and 1950s stripping, we’ve got Poletique from Richmond doing three acts – two pole and one lyra (a suspended hoop), Miss Surely Knot who is known for her bondage rope-tying, as well as returns from Rocky Le Roux and the Red Duchess.”
If you’re shy don’t sit in the front row – the Gazette’s party did last time, and they got to undo laces on tights, and eat cupcakes with whipped cream.
The show is very much tongue in cheek, but Rachel emphasised it is adults-only and younger audience members will have their ID checked at the door.
Doors open at 7.30pm for 8pm. See Ana Seethe’s Expose – Burlesque and Variety Night on Eventbrite to book – $35 plus booking fee, or $40 at the door. Price includes finger food. A bar will be open for drink sales.
