The Hawkesbury Jets under 14s boys’ side finished off an undefeated season in the Metro Junior League Championships with a grand final win against Liverpool Spartans on Sunday.
The Hawkesbury Jets support crew was out in full force to watch the boys take on the Liverpool at Penrith, despite the early 8am start.
The boys responded by coming out firing and opening up a 25-7 first quarter lead. Liverpool were not going to lie down and be run over and came back with a 10-22 second quarter to trail by only six at the main break.
Ethan Moss with 14 and Damon Laoh with 10 were doing most of the damage for the Jets.
The early second half saw the Jets go away from their usual unselfish team game and coach Matt Stephenson and Assistant Ben Garland worked hard and made changes to get things back on track.
The boys responded again with pint sized guard Jericho San Jose and the always consistent Daniel Stephenson instrumental in getting the team back to a double figure lead, before a tight final quarter finished with a 71-59 scoreline.
Ethan Moss was named MVP, scoring 22 points with solid contributions from Damon Laoh (18), Dan Stephenson (14), Tom Gacis (11), Cailan Douglass (4), and Liam Looyschelder (2) and a stack of rebounds. The team was rounded out by excellent work from Henry Borg, Shannon Allen, Jericho San Jose and Bradley Mantovani. See page 75
