HAWKESBURY families could access grants of $50 per child if their car is fitted with a suitable child restraint seat.
Roads and Maritime Services has awarded Hawkesbury Council a grant of $4000 to provide subsidies to parents whose car has a properly installed child restraint seat.
The RMS believes two-thirds of child restraints in cars are not fitted properly, and said the best way to ensure it was done correctly was the contact an RMS authorised restraint fitter.
Hawkesbury Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett encouraged parents to take advantage of the service.
“6.9 per cent of crashes within the Hawkesbury LGA in 2015 resulted with injuries to motor vehicle passengers between 0-12 years of age,” she said.
“Fortunately all were wearing restraints and zero fatalities occurred, highlighting the importance of promoting restraints to help save children's lives.”
The appointed RMS authorised fitter is an automotive centre which has been operating out of McGraths Hill for the last 21 years.
