NOT many theatrical productions will allow you to play a wolf, a fork and a dancing lady, but Erin Lackey is doing all of those in the upcoming spectacular ‘Beauty & the Beast’.
Erin, in Year 9 at Richmond High, said shyness was not a problem for her in the Richmond Players musical. “I’ve always been an extrovert, I’ve been doing public speaking since I was little,” she said.
“I’ve always had a knack for English and drama.”
She said being part of the huge production was an amazing experience, “learning the dances and seeing it all come together so perfectly”.
“It’s such an emotional rollercoaster of a story,” she said. “It’s happy, and sad where you want to cry, and then back again.”
But it’s not just Erin and several other Richmond High drama students who will represent youthful Hawkesbury in the glittering production. “There are about 20 little kids from primary schools as well,” she said.
With a named cast of 73, it’s an ambitious production for Richmond Players. Erin said it is a blend of the original story and more recent productions, including a can can dance!
“The costumes are amazing, and I”m blown away by the sets and choreographer Bec Blackwell,” Erin said.
“I heard that out of the 65 years of Richmond Players, this is the first year they’ve collaborated with Richmond High. If there was another opportunity I’d jump at it.”

Other students have worked backstage as part of the crew and been mentored in sound and lighting, set design, publicity and stage management.
It’s being held at the Mac building (at Richmond High) which can seat around 800.
There will be six performances including two matinees.
