THE Windsor Wolves were flogged by Brothers at the weekend in the Penrith Junior Rugby League A Grade competition.
Brothers scored 44 unanswered points after the Wolves scored the first try of the match.
It was a game where coach Chris Boyd’s fears about sides’ penchant for ball handling errors came to the fore in a huge way.
Boyd has talked about the team’s distinct lack of respect for the ball all season, and the leading team the in the A Grade took advantage of a number of errors from the Wolves.
“This has been around the corner all season,” Boyd said.
“We refuse to take any pride in holding the ball. Dropped ball just cost us.
“When you play the best side in the comp and you give them as much ball as we did, we were lucky to only be beaten by 40 points.
“There are a few guys there reading too much of their own press. We need them to step up and take the bull by the horns and start performing and it all starts with holding the ball.”
Boyd said he was disappointed by the play of a number of Wolves at the weekend, although did praise a handful of young players for their effort.
“Dean Barron, James Palmer, Dylan Curtis and Sam McKinley tried hard all day,” he said.
“A couple of young kids came on and stood up and did the club proud.”
Boyd said things would not get any easier for the Wolves with the final match of the regular season ahead.
“We are playing last year's premiers [St Clair] this week so it doesn't get any better,” he said.
“I hope they have it [dropping the ball] out of their system because they need to be a lot better this weekend.”
Boyd added that the Wolves were severely down on troops at the weekend.
He said the reserve grade team did not have a full starting side, let alone a bench.
“Reserve grade took to the field with 10 or 11 players and the game was called off just after half time because they ran out of troops,” he said.
“The club has definitely been hit by a big injury toll.”
He added that much needed reinforcements were due back for the match against St Clair.
“This week we should get Eaton Lindsay, Clay Robinson, Jayden Newsome, Rob Downton, Todd Stubblings, Michael Compton back, which should help.”
The Wolves hit the road for the final match of the regular season at Peppertree Sport Complex.
