HAWKESBURY golfers Christine Walshaw and Leonie Manczak won NSW Golf’s Pewter Plate recently, and have brought the competition back to the Hawkesbury with them.
The pair of golfers competed in the event for women with handicaps between 33 and 40 on July 17.
Walshaw had the top stableford score of 40, while combined they had the best pairs score of 67.
Winning the competition means in 2018 it will be hosted at Richmond Golf Club, where the pair are members.
Windsor’s Walshaw said it was a fantastic day of competition.
“It was just an amazing day. I just hit really great balls,” she said.
Kurrajong’s Manczak said she was chuffed the competition would be played in the Hawkesbury next year.
“We're both really proud that we're bringing a Golf NSW competition to Richmond,” she said.
“I loved the tournament. The weather was beautiful and the people were so friendly. For a competition I must say it was very relaxed, the people we played with were very supportive.”
Walshaw said she was equally as pleased.
“I am very excited by that. Richmond is a very beautiful place,” she said.
“Bringing an event here is great for the Hawkesbury and great for Richmond Golf Club.”
The pair have only been golfers for a few years. Manczak started about four years ago, while for Walshaw it was about six.
Walshaw said she always encouraged women to take up golf, and hoped the competition being in Richmond might aid that endeavour.
