THE South Windsor post office has been rated the best in Australia based upon a number of Australia Post metrics.
The office owned by Kumie and Daya Govender beat out every other post office in the country in 2016-17.
The Australia Post Retail Rewards criteria covers sales and how well the office is run, along with customer satisfaction metrics.
Mr Govender said he was proud his business was recognised, and it was nice to know others appreciated his efforts of trying to run a good business.
“I was quite shocked that we came first nationally. We run a good operation but to be acknowledged that we were the best in the country is quite an achievement,” Mr Govender said.
Mr and Mrs Govender bought the post office in 2002, shortly after coming to Australia from South Africa with their two sons Sanesh and Neshen.
Mr Govender said they came to the country with only their “business acumen”.
Mr Govender said when his family first arrived, he spent time looking into several businesses to start and ultimately decided upon running the post office in South Windsor.
His son Sanesh has followed in his father’s footsteps, and now operates his own in Adamstown, Newcastle, with the aid of his parents.
Neshen went a different path, becoming a civil engineer and is about to climb Mount Stok in the Himalays.
The South Windsor post office won the ‘network’ award the previous year, meaning it was the best in its region.
