VENDORS selling street food from around the globe will descend on the Hawkesbury for the first ever Traveling Food Fest at the Hawkesbury Racecourse on Saturday, July 29.
There’ll be food trucks, pop-up shops, food stands and market stalls galore from 3-9pm, selling all manner of tasty street foods, craft beers, wine and local ciders.
International favourites will include gozlemes, paella, empanadas, dumplings, churros, tapas, bibimbaps, and even pit-oven goodness cooked ‘hungi’-style.
There’ll also be burgers, healthy food bowls, fresh honey, corn on the cob, cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, meats and small goods, and barbecue skewers. For dessert, there’ll be vegan cakes, coffee, icecream, and syrup waffles from the Netherlands.
Even better, it’s free entry, and a portion of the takings from the fair will go to local charity, Blue Datto Foundation, so they can continue their important work spreading the word about safe driving practices.
Local businesses Aldo’s pizza (on wheels), Hillbilly Cider and Bilpin Cider will join the 65-strong line-up of vendors on offer on the day.
The event is organised by local company Black Castle Events, and the organisers are hoping to attract around 3000 punters. If it’s successful, they might put it on twice a year from here on in.
“Everything’s undercover, there’s lots of parking, and a train [Clarendon Station] at the door,” said event organiser/director, Pollyanne Feneck.
“There’ll be live entertainment and a dining area, and something for everyone including face painting for the kids and plaster-making. It’s a big community get-together, really.
“I run farmers’ markets throughout Sydney - two in Castle Hill and two in the Blue Mountains - and I find there’s a lack of good stuff like this in the Hawkesbury.
“It’s a great community thing where families can come and get good food, listen to good music, and just chill.”
Hawkesbury Racecourse is based on Racecourse Road in Clarendon. Find out more at the Traveling Food Fest page on Facebook.
