The second leg of the Globe Memorial Richmond Riches Series continued on Friday night, and saw connections of Big Black receive a $7000 consolation when their promising chaser scored a dominant win in the 2017 Richmond Riches 400m Classic final.
Starting at the prohibitive odds of $1.30 at box rise, the Donna Campbell prepared greyhound gave punters a few minor heart palpitations when trying to secure clear running in the short run to the first turn, but as soon as he did, he was 'off and gone' with the prize.
Big Black went on to defeat local favorites “Pick It Up” for Joanne Zammit by 5.25 lengths with “Good Odds Shakey” for Frank and Tracey Hurst a further 2.5 lengths away in third spot in the time of 22.71.
Both Big Black and Pick It Up had made the final of the 535m Classic final before finishing unplaced behind Mister Twister and there are more wins in store for both greyhounds.
Richmond Race Club also held the first of many running hurdle relay races between three local rugby League clubs. The Londonderry Greys, the Michinbury Jets and the Cambridge Park – Cranbrook JRLFC all took to to the track for some mid racing entertainment. The Michinbury Jets showed the best turn of foot and took the inaugural trophy and bragging rights until the next time they meet.
The final leg of the Richmond Riches Series gets underway on the 25th August.
The Richmond Board have recently announced that the Auction and Race series will continue this year with the next puppy auction to be held 26th November 2017.
