THE average Hawkesbury resident is 38, married, likely identifies as being of Australian or English descent and also earns more than the average Australian.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released the first data from the 2016 Census.
The below graphic examines some of the statistics recorded in the Hawkesbury Local Government Area from the 2016 Census.
The median age of Hawkesbury residents rose from 36 (2011) to 38 (2016). The percentage of men and women remained nearly identical. In 2011, women made up 50.2 per cent of the population, with men making up 49.2 per cent. In 2016, women made up 50.5 per cent of the population with men making up 49.5 per cent.
While the median age of Hawkesbury residents is 38, the median age of residents who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is 21. There were 2392 people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander living in the region, which is 3.7 per cent of the population.
There were 64,592 people living in the Hawkesbury who completed the Census. In 2011 there were 62,353, and in 2006 there were 60,561.
Just under 50 per cent of Hawkesbury people are married.
Not everyone in the Hawkesbury has internet in their homes, with 13.3 per cent of households saying they had no connection.
Australian and English were the top two responses to people’s ancestry.
Catholicism overtook Anglicanism as the top religion in the Hawkesbury, although ‘no religion’ responses skyrocketed by nearly 50 per cent.
