HAWKESBURY Council will conduct a survey to find out what type of rubbish residents put in their bins.
Council conducts the survey every three years, and the ultimate aim is to limit the amount of rubbish that ends up landfill.
Council said the survey would also help plan for future bin picks and waste infrastructure needs.
To conduct the survey, Council workers will collect the contents of 220 randomly selected rubbish, recycling and garden waste bins.
Council said the 2014 survey showed the average rubbish bin had 19 per cent recyclable materials, 12 per cent garden organics and 29 per cent food waste. Council said the study showed only 40 per cent of the content in bins should actually be headed to landfill.
