Careflight has confirmed an 87-year-old man suffered extensive internal injuries and is in a serious condition and a 42-year-old man suffered serious trauma including a leg and pelvic fracture and abdominal injuries and is also in a serious condition.
The pair were treated at the scene after the Careflight rapid response helicopter arrived, and both drivers were taken to Westmead Hospital via road ambulance.
A section of Grose Vale Road is closed in both directions, with diversions in place at Grose River Road – heading to Bowen Mountain - and Grose Wold Road – heading to North Richmond.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage.
A resident - who was not home at the time of the crash but lives nearby - told The Gazette they were shocked by the accident.
They said people frequently sped along the road and it was very dangerous.
The resident, who did not wish to be named, said last year, their front fence was taken out by a car, which had lost control along the road.
They said in the time they had lived in the house, there had been a number of crashes at a nearby intersection on Grose River Road.
