WONDERFUL things can be made out of waste, and Council is calling for primary school students to enter its fourth annual Waste 2 Art Competition.
Waste 2 Art focuses on the reuse part of the ‘3Rs of the waste hierarchy’ - reuse, reduce, recycle - to show how students can give waste a new purpose by transforming it into a creative piece of artwork.
Students are invited to create either 2D or 3D artworks, which must be individual and unique, and made entirely of used or recycled materials.
The creative works will be exhibited throughout Local Government Week, Monday, July 31 to Sunday, August 6, at the Deerubbin Centre, Windsor. A ceremony to announce the winners will be held on Monday, July 31 at 6pm.
Students will be judged as per Stages 1, 2 and 3, with four prizes to be awarded per stage. First prize is a $200 gift voucher for art supplies, second prize is a $100 gift voucher for art supplies, third prize is a $50 gift voucher for art supplies, and highly commended gets an art hamper.
An online registration form with all the guidelines for artwork and conditions of entry is available at www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/media/forms/waste-2-art-competition.
Registrations close on Wednesday, June 28, however artworks do not need to be submitted until Tuesday, July 25.
