HAWKESBURY trainers Ethne Potowski and Jamie Thomsen both scored at the Hawkesbury Race Club on Thursday, May 18, while Hawkesbury stabled Pygmy also got up for new Godolphin trainer Darren Beadman.

Potowski combined with Hawkesbury jockey Tye Angland and saw Lion Couchant claim victory.

In the 1000-metre benchmark 65 sprint, Lion Couchant held off a fellow Hawkesbury duo in jockey Grant Buckley riding Malcolm Johnston’s Bite the Media, who finished in second place in the race.

Jamie Thomsen’s Just Two Vees, a four-year-old gelding, started as an outsider at $26, but managed to get a nose ahead in the 1800-metre maiden handicap to claim his first win from a 13 start career.

Later in the day, Godolphin trainer Darren Beadman scored with Hawkesbury stabled Pygmy.

The three-year-old filly made it back to back wins after starting as the favourite in the 2000-metre benchmark 70.

In the first race of the day, Hawkesbury’s Wade Slinkard narrowly missed out on a victory, after jockey Hugh Bowman steered California Wisdom around the outside to snatch a victory from Slinkard’s grasp.

Slinkard’s Our Anniversaire was a nose behind the Peter and Paul Snowden trained California Wisdom in the 1400-metre maiden handicap.

Jason Attard had a third placed runner, with four-year-old mare Pretty Smart finishing two lengths adrift of Mark de Montfort’s Ready Set Sing in a 1400-metre benchmark 60.
