An extra 300 hectares of land in the remaining stage of the Schofields West precinct, north of Schofields Road, has been released with the capacity to accommodate an extra 1,300 homes.
Member for Riverstone, Mr Kevin Conolly MP joined Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts to announced the release of land for the new development.
“Schofields West” is a precinct within the North-West Priority Growth Area and is being progressively developed to meet the housing needs of growing Sydney,” Mr Conolly said.
“The total number of new dwellings in the whole growth area over the next two decades is now projected to be 90,000, revised up from the previously announced 70,000.
“This will help to address the undersupply of dwellings over the last decade which has forced up Sydney prices.
“Increasing housing supply is the biggest factor in improving housing affordability for home buyers and the cost of rent for tenants.”
Minister Roberts said these current and new communities would benefit from the Sydney Metro Northwest being on their doorstep.
The plan includes a corridor for a future extension of the Sydney Metro Northwest from Cudgegong Road Station to Marsden Park.
“With new development we need the right infrastructure. The plan provides robust plans to grow communities with access to schools, open space, jobs, roads and public transport,” Mr Roberts said.
A detailed draft land use plan for the whole Schofields West precinct will be out on public exhibition later this year.
