INJURIES are mounting for the GWS Giants as the club prepares to take on the Richmond Tigers this week.

Giants vice-captain Stephen Coniglio will miss 10 weeks after having surgery on his ankle, which he injured during the Giants’ victory over the Collingwood Magpies at the weekend.

Coniglio had surgery on Monday to repair his ankle, which head of athletic performance David Joyce Coniglio’s injury was worse than originally feared.

“We have no doubt that Stephen will attack his rehabilitation with the same diligence he does all areas of his football and will return to the field in peak condition later in the season,” he said.

Aidan Corr and Sam Reid both suffered concussions against the Magpies, and will need to pass a fitness test before returning to the field this weekend.

The Giants lost defender Adam Kennedy for the season, after he injured himself playing against St Kilda.

Meanwhile big name recruit Brett Deledio is still dealing with a calf injury, which has kept him from the field so far this season, and he will not return against his former club this weekend.

The Giants will be boosted, however, by the return of Toby Greene, who was suspended two weeks ago.

Richmond started off the season in fine form, winning its first five matches, but has since dropped the past three and sits in seventh place on the ladder.

The Giants will play Richmond on Saturday at 4.35pm at Spotless Stadium.
