HAWKESBURY Race Club is pushing to have five Black Type races at next year’s renewal of its now well established annual Saturday metropolitan race meeting.
The club already has three Group 3 events – the Livamol Hawkesbury Gold Cup, Blacktown Workers Club Hawkesbury Guineas and Godolphin Crown – and Hawkesbury boss Greg Rudolph is keen to add the XXXX Gold Rush (1100m) and Clarendon Stakes (1300m) for two-year-olds to its black type portfolio.
“We feel both of those races are deserving of at least Listed Race status, and will be making a submission to Racing NSW and the Racing Australia Pattern Committee in that regard,” Rudolph said.
“They each have the race rating and prizemoney, deserving of that status and Racing NSW CEO Peter V'landys has been very supportive of the development of this meeting during his tenure", he added.
Previously known as the Claret Stakes, the club changed the name this year to the Clarendon Stakes, in keeping with the historical aspect of the racecourse precinct.
“TAB came on board as a new long term sponsor for the race, and I am hopeful we could secure an upgrade to Listed status as early as next year.”
THE 12th Stand Alone fixture was Rudolph’s first as Hawkesbury Chief Executive just after last year’s meeting, and he was quietly satisfied with the outcome.
“I was really pleased and the feedback since has been excellent, but having said that we can still get better and five Black Type races would be a significant boost,” Rudolph said.
