CURRENT and past students and their families gathered at the Alphabet Academy day care centre on Macquarie Street in South Windsor for a special Anzac Day Remembrance Service.
Director Jennifer Piper said the aim of the service was to help students make connections to their history and their community, “as they explore notions of friendships, servanthood, National loyalty and Peace.”
“For the children who attend The Alphabet Academy we have been able to reaffirm and direct them to the links between the ‘old’ story of ANZAC and the relevance it has to the ‘new’ big magical world they live in,” said Ms Piper.
The service included raising the Australian Flag, observing the National Anthem, The Ode and the Last Post, and a morning tea with pastries provided by the local bakery.
“Through this Remembrance Service, children engaged with members of the community through storytelling with past and present armed force members, exploring a range of stimulating age-appropriate art and craft, real life help skills, dance, movement, historical, geographical, literacy and numeracy experiences,” said Ms Piper.
“All children had created wonderful displays within their classroom for their families and our guests in attendance allowing a visual display of respect and understanding of the role they play within the community.”
Ms Piper thanked all those in attendance. “We would also like to thank the Windsor RSL for providing us with pieces of war memorabilia we were able to display whilst students and guests attended our morning tea following our ceremony,” she said.
