Greater Sydney residents pay respects on Anzac Day 2017

Greater Sydney residents turned out in droves on Tuesday to pay their respects on Anzac Day 2017.

HAWKESBURY► Hundreds turned up at various locations across the Hawkesbury to pay their respects to the Anzacs on Tuesday. Read more.

RICHMOND► The cries of scores rainbow lorikeets and even a solitary kookaburra punctuated an otherwise still morning at Richmond Oval, as the Richmond RSL Sub-Branch hosted its Anzac Day dawn service. Read more.

SUTHERLAND SHIRE► There seems to be no stopping the growth in attendance at Anzac Day dawn service remembrance ceremonies in Sutherland Shire. Well over 5000 people turned out at both Cronulla and Miranda, and there were more than 3000 at Engadine. Read more.

RIVERWOOD► The Australian and New Zealand national anthems rang out across Riverwood during the early hours on Tuesday morning, as part of the Anzac Day dawn service. Read more.

ST GEORGE► Young children gathered with parents and grandparents at dawn services across St George for the 102nd commemoration of the ANZAC landings. Read more.

MORTDALE► Hundreds gathered for the Anzac Dawn Service of Remembrance at Mortdale Memorial Park on Tuesday morning. Read more.

FAIRFIELD► Thousands of people gathered at Anzac Day services across Fairfield to commemorate servicemen and women who have fought for our country and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today.  Read more.

LIVERPOOL► Breaking tradition due to the upgrading of Bigge Park, the City of Liverpool Sub-Branch held this year’s Anzac Day dawn service at Maquarie Mall. People lined the mall and watched as returned and current servicemen and women, marched to the service with their families. Read more.

CAMDEN► In the eerie pre-dawn hours Camden streets are usually silent, but on Tuesday morning hundreds of people made the journey to Camden Bicenntenial Equestrian Park for the Camden RSL Sub-branch Anzac Day dawn service. Read more.

INGLEBURN ► Thousands turned out for this year’s Ingleburn RSL Sub-branch Dawn Service. Read more.

BLACKTOWN► Thousands gathered before dawn in Blacktown on Tuesday to pay their respects to our fallen soldiers. Read more.

SEVEN HILLS►An estimated 4000 people went to the Cenotaph at Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL on Tuesday morning to pay their respects to Australian servicemen and servicewomen. Read more.

ROOTY HILL► Two new statues and a plaque were unveiled at Pinegrove Memorial Park as part of the Anzac Day services on Tuesday morning. Read more.

ST MARYS► “We hope that mankind can one day realise the futility of war so that others don’t have to make the same sacrifice.” Those words punctured the air outside St Marys RSL Club on Tuesday as the community gathered to commemorate Anzac Day. Read more.

PARRAMATTA► Crowds spilled onto Church Street for the 4.30am dawn service in Prince Alfred Square to pay their respects to the Australians who served their country in conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Read more.

MERRYLANDS► More than 2000 locals gathered at Merrylands this morning for the Anzac Day dawn service hosted by Merrylands RSL Sub Branch. This year marks the second Anzac Day dawn service at Charles Mance Reserve. Read more.

KELLYVILLE-THE HILLS► A crowd of thousands gathered before the dawn at the Centenary of Anzac Reserve in Kellyville to remember the fallen. Read more.

PENRITH► The streets surrounding Memory Park in Penrith were overflowing with people as thousands turned out to pay their respects at the Dawn Service organised by Penrith RSL sub-branch. Read more.

SYDNEY CBD (I)► Thousands packed Martin Place for the 2017 Anzac Day dawn service, amid tightened security due to terrorism fears that appeared to have kept numbers below last year's crowds. Read more.
