It won’t just be the solemn strains of the Last Post that Anzac Day participants will hear this year.
There’ll also be the might and power of the engine of a Hercules aircraft as the flight crew doff their caps over the Hawkesbury in a show of respect.
The Hercules flypast will be part of a co-ordinated program to cover ceremonies around Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
The C-130J will buzz McQuade Park at Windsor at 6.25am, then head to Riverstone, buzzing the cenotaph on Riverstone Parade at 6.28am, getting down to an altitude of only 75m.
Defence said “flypast timings may require the aircraft to remain in a holding pattern at low level prior to conducting each flypast”.
The plane will take to the air again later in the morning to cover services at Lawson and Lithgow.
A Hawk 127 aircraft will conduct Sydney flypasts at Freshwater, Sydney CBD and Kenthurst.
A Defence spokesperson said Defence thanked all Australians “for remembering those who have paid the ultimate price in service to our nation”.
