The right appetite is essential for a child’s development, health and it can prevent bad eating habits as an adult.
Making this a priority, Nestle have established a program in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), in a bid to teach children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
The Nestlé Healthy Active Kids program will be holding cooking workshops for kids at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show that will see little chef’s put their skills to the test with lunchbox cooking sessions.
“We want to teach them that cooking is fun, delicious and something they can help out with at home,” Katrina Koutoulas, Head of Market Wellness, Nestlé Oceania said.
The 20 minute sessions will let kids chop, melt and mix away, as they learn how to cook with fresh ingredients by making their own snacks.
At the end of the sessions, kids plate up and taste their lunchbox delights. They are also gifted a portion plate and lunchbox stickers to take home.
The fun cooking sessions will be open to children aged between 6 to 13 years old at the Woolworths Food Farm inside the show grounds from April 6 to April 19.
For those who can’t make it to the Easter show, there is an online program, www.healthyactivekids.com.au, offering over 80 free lesson plans written by Australian teachers. There are also videos of Australian athletes, and competitions for teachers to win resources for their schools.
