A fifth C-27J Spartan aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force arrived at RAAF Base Richmond last week.
The arrival of the new Spartan came following a two-week delivery flight that began in Waco Texas and involved stops in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Arrival of this aircraft will provide No. 35 Squadron with greater capacity to support Defence activities and operations, as well as conduct further training and trials with the aircraft.
The C-27J Spartan is a battlefield airlift transport, and intended to complement Army's rotary-wing helicopter fleet in support of frontline operations, including Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, and Peacekeeping.
The Spartan delivery to RAAF Base Richmond is the halfway mark for the full fleet of ten aircraft being delivered by 2018.
These aircraft are able to operate as transports from airfields that are unable to accommodate larger transport aircraft.
