THE Western Sydney Wanderers will hope Brendon Santalab’s boots stay on fire as the club takes on the Newcastle Jets on Saturday afternoon.
Santalab’s feet worked magic for the Wanderers on Friday night as the veteran striker recorded a hat-trick against Melbourne City, to deliver the Wanderers a much needed win.
The Wanderers are now just one point adrift of the Perth Glory on the table, and on the outside looking in to a finals spot.
The timing of the victory could not have been better, with the Wanderers now tasked with dismantling the eighth placed Jets, who are coming off a 5-0 thrashing by Wellington.
With just three rounds of A-League competition left, the Wanderers will need all the points they can get, and Santalab will again be called upon to do some of the heavy lifting.
The hat-trick against City took Santalab’s tally to 14 goals for the season, making him the equal highest Australian born shooter in the competition.
